Birthstones by Month

Many gemstones are associated with either the signs of the zodiac or months of the year, and as such as referred to as "Birthstones". The tradition of wearing particular gemstones according to your birthday varies between countries and cultures. You may see two differing lists of birthstones by month, one referred to as modern birthstones, the other traditional birthstones. You may also birthstones by signs of the Zodiac, often called Mystical Birthstones, and also a list of birthstones according to Ayurvedic tradition. Below we have set our the birthstones by month, according to the system generally used in UK these days, referring to calendar months rather than star signs. January Birthstone

The birthstone for January is the garnet. The beautiful amethyst is the birthstone for February. This gemstone is usually violet or a deep purple. It is though to be calming and symbolise peace and stability. Aquamarine is the birthstone for March. This gemstone is famous for it's greenish blue colour - the colours of the sea - and as such has come to symbolise clarity and strength. April Birthstone

For those lucky enough to be born in April, the birthstone for April is the diamond. As everyone knows, diamond is the earth's hardest substance, and so represents strength, but also clarity and eternity. Diamonds are very expensive. May Birthstone

The birthstone for May is the beautiful green emerald. The emerald is one of the world's most precious gemstones and good size, clear emeralds are very rare.
